Trivium - A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation- Ascendancy - Released March 15th, 2005

This music video borrows many stereotypical aspects of the metal genre. The entire group is wearing black clothing, baggy jeans and having similar black hair. Their posture is also stereotypical as can be seen when the lead vocalist is getting the crowd ready for the climax of the song, with his arm movements which don't look choreographed or planned. Also the frantic movement of the head back and forth or named (headbanging) is apparent in the video and is highly stereotypical of the metal genre. The camera work throughout the video was constantly moving from different view points, close up shots of the guitarist then of to a wide angle shot of the entire group. There was alot of the quick cutting editing technique used all throughout this video, helping to view the entire band without having to stop, and to also symbolise the speed and emotions felt when listening to the music. Towards the end of the video, a large crowd suddenly appears and starts dancing in a fashion stereotypical with metal music to highlight the brutality of the genre.

Iron Maiden - Run To The Hills - The Number Of The Beast - Released February 12th, 1982

I chose this music video because its from a famous song and band from the genre. Iron Maiden helped revolutionise and popularise metal music and hold a large worldwide fan base. The video features the band performing the song on a stage, not featuring a audience but is very bright in colour and contrast from the previous modern videos. The band is wearing stereotypical old metal clothing, from the large studded arm band the singer is wearing, the studded leather jackets help give the band a rugged and fierce look. The entire band also have long hair, which is very stereotypical of the metal genre, and probably Iron Maiden helped in making it popular worldwide for artists of the similar genre. The video also cuts from the band performing to a black and white video, of what looks like a fight between western and Indian tribes. This could be linked with the song title as "run to the hills" could be the only way to escape from the battle. The camera work throughout the video is quick and works well with the genre of the song, mainly focusing on the singer during the versus, then using close up shots of the guitarists when they are doing their solo's and iconic metal riff.

Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child Of Mine - Appetite For Destruction - Released July 21st, 1987

I chose this video as it is a classic example of a hard rock group. Including legendary guitar player Slash and controversial singer Axel Rose in there prime, it is a song which is known worldwide and a momentous track within rocks vast history. The video is being performed upon a stage, with the guns and roses logo on a black sheet behind the entire band as they play. The artists are all wearing leather and denim made clothes and in possession of sun glasses which could be to hide their faces, so that they can allow the listener to focus on the music rather than their faces. The video is editing in a manner in which some scenes are in black and white, this could be interpreted that this is a historic video and going for a vintage look, due to the fact that most historical footage is shot in black and white. The video is very dark in appearance maybe to symbolise the harsh reality of the rock genre and to compliment the bands dark clothing.

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody - A Night At The Opera - Released October 3rd, 1975

Thought of as Queen's biggest accomplishment throughout their carea "Bohemian Rhapsody" was a worldwide hit, with multiple single number ones in Britain and New Zealand and coming number two on U.S Billboard Hot 100. The song was praised for its depth and creative lyrics which helped it to become such a sensation and truly one of the best rock anthems ever created. The video cuts between footage of the band performing and then all four members stood in a diamond formation and light shining from the bottom to eluminate their faces, this gives the band a look of menace and power. The band are wearing tight white clothes, made of shiny fabric, which is completely unconventional of the rock genre. The light behind the band aswell are bright colours, from greens to purples which gives the video a more public appeal and straying away from the normal rock video.

Pop Genre

The Pop Genre developed in the mid 1950s as a softer form of rock n roll. The genre is targeted at the youth or mainstream market, and mostly contains medium to short songs featured about love. The pop genre has grown into a worldwide success and is mostly featured in most top 20 charts due to the global fan base for the genre.

Micheal Jackson - Beat It - Thriller - Released Febuary 14th, 1983

Micheal Jackson is without a doubt one of the best pop artists of all time, named apptly the "King of Pop" a status which is rightly disevered. He is the artist with the most album record sales ever and his devotion towards his music and fanbase is unremarkable. Micheal Jackson always uses narratives within his stories,to help visually portray the words of the song. He also includes fantastic coregrahped dances, which helps to glamourise the theatrical type story used throughout his songs. This video focuses on two gangs forming together and having a fight, which is glamourised but doesn't involve any violence, with the help of props such as knifes this helps the user understand the narrative of a gang war breaking out. Then Micheal Jackson interupts the fight and starts dancing, the two gangs then forget their differences and joins Micheal in the dancing. The clothing worn in this video ranges, the gangs are wearing denim and black clothes to help conceal their identity, but Micheal Jackson is wearing bright and vibrant clothing such as his bright red jacket and blue t-shirt. The lighting starts of very dark, when Micheal Jackson isn't at the scene of the fight, but as he arrives the lights turn on, maybe to symbolise a brighter future and a end to the fighting.

George Micheal - Faith -Faith - Released October 31st, 1987

I chose this video because is from well known pop artist George Micheal. Having sold 10 million records worldwide as of 2010 and owning 7 UK number one singles , 7 UK number one albums , 8 USA number one singles and 1 USA number on album he is truely highly regarded in the pop industry. The video is mostly filmed in black and white, this gives the film a feel of vintage and maybe a historic moment within George's career. There are key parts which seem to have been picked out in colour, for instance his jeans are blue but the rest of the video is in black and white. This could only be achieved with the use of computer technology and the ability to single out one colour. Throughout the video George is dancing and playing his guitar in a eratic manner, this is to suit the pacing of the song, but to also keep the audience insterested throughout the video. George is wearing blue jeans, cowboy boots, a leather jacket with the writing "Revenge" on the back and sun glasses, these are all stereotypical of the pop genre and helps gives the artist a image which the audience is familiar to.

Snoop Dogg - Drop It Like It's Hot - R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta):The Masterpiece - Released October 12th, 2004

Snoop Dogg is a renouwed R&B artist, with his first album named Doggystle going quaddruple platinum and working with many other R&B artists such as Pharrell, 50 cent and Nelly he has become a worldwide success. He has also featured in many films during his career such as Starsky and Hutch and Bones. The video is entirely black and white, this could be so tht the audience can just focus on the music rather than the be put off with bright colours. The is very plain in apperance only featuring snoop dogg and pharrell singing and dancing behind a complete white background. There are also constant images of wealth being portrayed, from the large boat to the jewelry or bling that snoop dogg is wearing all over his body. There is also blanked out language during the video, as to not offend any listeners when they are watching the video, this again is conforming to the stereotypical style that R&B is known for.

Eminem - Lose Yourself - 8 Mile Soundtrack - Released October 22nd, 2002

Eminem is a american R&B artist with many highly aclaimed awards to his name. His first album The Slim Shady LP won a Grammy Awards for Best Rap Album and his second album The Marshall Mathers LP became the fastest selling solo album in history. This success led onto him creating his own record label named Shady Records, this allowed for his group project named D12 to come into mainstream view. This music video was part of a soundtrack for the film 8 Mile, which included Eminem as the lead character. Therefore the videos cuts between footage of the movie and then Eminem performing the song in one of the key locations in the film. The video is very dark in apperance to maybe show the trouble that is happening and that their is a deep underground R&B scene, this also compliments the harsh relaity theme expressed within the film. The artist is wearing baggy dark clothing, it is very plain and menacing. He also wears a hoody with the hood up, maybe to try and hide his identity or help give the image of his solitary.
