I have concentrated on creating a very strong house style for my music video, CD covers and magazine advert using the symbolism associated with rock and metal music. Another factor which greatly influenced this style was my target audience. With the help of this style, it has allowed me to focus on the best direction in which the final products would look and feel.
One factor which played a enormous part throughout the entire project was the colour scheme. Having decided upon a genre of music of rock and heavy metal, I knew that the colour scheme would have to be dark and menacing and compliment the bands image. The chosen colours were red, black, white and fiery yellows. I wanted to use a mixture of bright and contrasting colours, from the vibrant colours generated by the flames, and then put behind a dark background it allowed for them look like a raging inferno which was just the effect I wanted. Also the colours which are stereotypically used in the rock and metal genres are usually dark shades of red, showing symbolism of blood and dis spare .
This colour scheme was then transferred to the music video, with the red and black jacket the vocalist Ollie is wearing throughout the entire video, and to the band footage which was all shot in a room were the walls were covered in red drapes. The mise en scene also followed the same colour scheme, the costumes worn throughout the video were black in colour helping to create this believable band image and conforming to the stereotypical view of a rock and metal music video.
Linking the music video to the ancillary texts were a top priority, using a clear theme between them was paramount in creative a believable set of final products. I wanted to include the entire band within my ancillary text and so took a photograph of the band at plug n play, this can be seen by my middle pages in which they take up all the space. This provided a link between the actors in the band and also the ancillary text. It is a picture with the band posing for the camera, and truly a striking image which I believe helps to inform the target audience of who is in the band.
The target audience was also a important factor with creating this similarity. Both the music video and the ancillary texts had to fit the chosen target audience of the genre rock and metal. This therefore made the choices throughout the project much more concentrated, so that the chosen theme could then be used to its full potential.
In conclusion I believe that I have managed to create a highly effective combination between all of my final products, with using strong links and themes to help make them believable. With the same colour scheme used throughout, and ancillary text referring back to the video it would of been hard to created any further links without repeating previous ideas which I feel would of decresed the creative side of my project . The research into the CD covers and Music Videos truly did help in creating this strong combination, as it allowed me to see successful examples of how other artist's created the same theme I was trying to achieve within my own project.
