Initial Story Board / Plans

I have drawn out a few rough sketches for roughly what our music video for can't get enough might look like. These are a few very early concepts and could be changed over course of development.

The Narratives of my Music Video

Gambling

Gambling is a urge to gamble disbite negative concequences and the desire to stop. This sketch by myself showing how I would like the gambling story to look and feel. With the man being trapped in a small room with all these cards surrounding him. This is due to his gambling addiction which is taking a hold on him and is sat solitary in a dark and gloomy room. The scene would want to be shocking, and portray aspects that the actor is going mental in this room as he has been trapped in with his dark temptation for a long time.

I have also scanned in a whole deck of cards. These can be printed out in different sizes, which will look similar to my sketch of the gambling scene of having different sized playing cards on the walls and celling of the dark room.

Insomnia

Insomnia is symptom which can rapidly decrease the amount of sleep the patient is having. With this research in mind, I thought of ways in which sleep and time could be both portrayed in video form. I wanted the location and lighting to be dark for this scene, as sleep is associated with night and also it will fit in with genre of the chosen song.

I also thought of what objects could be used it the creation of the scene. A bed would be needed so that the actor can move and portray his lack of sleep and is ironically a place commonly associated with sleep. I also thought of a digital bed side clock, this will mean the time can be edited to create the allusion of when the actor continuously wakes up.

Drug Abuse

Drug abuse can be portrayed in many ways, from being drunk as of cause of alcohol or in extreme cases such as injecting substances. I wanted the drug scene to be shocking, but not concentrate on the actual intake of the drug, rather more the side effects of taking them. This will therefore make the video more accessible, as people find graphically portrayed drug taking as sickly and dis tasteful

The image I drew has the actor situated in a public toilet, in which he is lying down confused and dazed whilst taking the drugs. I felt that the poorer condition toilet was perfect for this scene, as it portrays how the actors life is in a terrible state, at because of the confinement of the toilet cubicle is symbolises the actor being alone and only accompanied by his addiction.

The side effect part of the story needs to be shocking. It must have a sense of surrealism and should be disturbing as to not glamorise drug taking during the video. The lighting and added computer effects should still be kept reasonably realistic, as to not make the video seem over the top or detract from other stories being told throughout the video.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - OCD (Unused In Final Music Video)

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - Unused in final video or (OCD) is a mental disorder in which the patient has high anxiety caused by intrusive thoughts, a side effect of this is repetitive behaviour and in some cases repetitive hand washing.

In this scene i wanted to express the everyday life of a person suffering from OCD. This would include the repetition of hand cleaning, and also everything being in its correct position. I had to think of other side effects patients had other than hand washing, to make the scene more creative and interesting. I researched the disorder in a variety of medias , from Internet to film which gave me ideas of how i could portray it. I found that in extreme cases patients use a toothbrush to clean the floors ( found in the film The Machinist) , and following a strict routine in the positioning of objects. I hope to use these extreme cases in this scene, so its shocking and stands out to the audience. This narrative wasn't used in the final video, as it didn't suit the rest of the video. The reason for this was that I wanted a gritty and well polished final product, which suited the genre of rock and metal. This disorder I felt didn't work well with the overall effect I was trying to portray. Also with the other narratives taking up a large amount of the video, while in the editing process, it wasn't viable to fit in this narrative without reducing the high quality of the final music video.
